According to an early Hong Kong government estimate based on data provided by the main private operators of the port, Hong Kong saw a yearly container throughput of 22,283,000 teu in 2014, down slightly by 0.3 percent compared to 2013. A ‘teu’ is a twenty-foot equivalent unit, which is an inexact unit of cargo capacity often used to describe the capacity of container ships and container terminals. Hong Kong is the fourth largest port in the world after Shanghai, Singapore and Shenzhen. EPA/ALEX HOFFORD
